Biography

Born on 2 November 1994, Alexey Uvarov is a researcher in the fields of quantum computing and quantum physics. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Applied Mathematics and Physics from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology in 2016. Furthering his education, Alexey completed his Master’s degree in Applied Mathematics and Physics at the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology in 2018. In 2023, he successfully defended his PhD thesis in Theoretical Physics at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology.

Alexey began his PhD program in 2018, working under the guidance of Jacob Biamonte. His PhD thesis, Variational Quantum Algorithms for Local Hamiltonian Problems, is available online: doi.org/10.48550

Alexey’s key research contributions include the early use of adiabatic-assisted VQE (variational quantum eigensolver) and being among the first authors to explore the application of quantum machine learning for training on quantum data [Physical Review A 102 (1), 012415]. He also developed lower bounds on the existence of barren plateaus, which have far-reaching implications in the field of quantum information processing [Journal of Physics A: Mathematical and Theoretical 54 (24), 245301]. Alexey has presented his work at numerous conferences and has experience assisting in various quantum computing courses.
